Every accounting team has a significant amount of responsibility on their shoulders. They’re handling incoming and outgoing cash flows, not to mention all financial statements on a regular basis. That being said, companies want to ensure that their teams are running as efficiently as possible. But what more can you do to increase your team’s efficiency? We have a few suggestions for you.
Schedule a Custom Team Training
In addition to our regularly scheduled courses on financial basics, Excel, and more, TGG-University also offers Custom Team Training. All of our team trainings are custom-tailored to meet your team’s needs. We bring our TGG Way™ to your team and teach the members of your accounting team effective communication and how to collect and process financial data in a fraction of the time.
Our ultimate goal is to create teams that work at peak performance levels. We tailor the training to meet your team’s needs by starting with a call to determine existing strengths and weaknesses. Once determined, we design a custom program focused on identified skill level and gaps. Best of all, all training takes place live on Zoom!
Encourage Collaboration
Finance and accounting departments are often closely intertwined. Your company may benefit from improving collaboration and communication between departments.
It’s easy for each department to get caught up in prioritizing their own work. While this makes perfect sense, some departments can’t complete all of their independent tasks without the support of their other peers from different departments. When this is the case, collaborative support is necessary to keep the ball rolling.
One way to improve cross-departmental collaboration is to implement a cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. ERP systems manage all aspects of a production-based business by aligning financial management, human resources, supply chain management, and manufacturing or distribution with the core function of accounting.
Automate Manual Processes
In today’s day and age implementing automation technology is a no-brainer. If you haven’t already, provide your team with accounting software to replace manual time-consuming accounting processes.
Automated accounting software allows your team to generate reports, calculate profits and losses, prepare invoices, record transaction details, manage taxes, and more with just a few clicks rather than having to invest immense amounts of time doing so. Automating manual tasks frees up more time for your team to spend on more important tasks that require their personal skills and expertise.
Facilitate Effective Communication
Communication works like a two-way street. First, you need to be sure to effectively communicate with your team. They need to be aware of what you expect of them on a day to day and long term basis. Set clear goals and expectations for them to achieve and stay on track.
Additionally, you want to ensure that your team is comfortable with open communication as well. If they need support from a superior or even their peers, they need to be capable of openly communicating their needs. Additionally, encouraging collaboration between departments as previously suggested requires significant communication. Just as expectations need to be set for your team, they need to discuss expectations to and from their peers and communicate where they stand in meeting those expectations.
A great way to encourage communication with your team is by holding morning or afternoon huddles. Bringing your team together once a day, even if just for a short period of time, gives them an opportunity to communicate any questions or concerns they may have in addition to giving you the perfect platform to communicate your needs and expectations for the day.
If you’re worried about the ongoing performance of your team, these suggestions are a great place to start. While every team is unique and has different needs, these tips are intended to serve as suggestions for a step in the right direction. If you’re considering one of our Custom Team Trainings but aren’t sure if it’s the right fit for your team, try checking out our stand-alone course offerings as well.
