Finance and accounting departments are often closely intertwined. Your company may benefit from improving collaboration and communication between departments.
It’s easy for each department to get caught up in prioritizing their own work. While this makes perfect sense, some departments can’t complete all of their independent tasks without the support of their other peers from different departments. When this is the case, collaborative support is necessary to keep the ball rolling.
One way to improve cross-departmental collaboration is to implement a cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. ERP systems manage all aspects of a production-based business by aligning financial management, human resources, supply chain management, and manufacturing or distribution with the core function of accounting.

Communication works like a two-way street. First, you need to be sure to effectively communicate with your team. They need to be aware of what you expect of them on a day to day and long term basis. Set clear goals and expectations for them to achieve and stay on track.
Additionally, you want to ensure that your team is comfortable with open communication as well. If they need support from a superior or even their peers, they need to be capable of openly communicating their needs. Additionally, encouraging collaboration between departments as previously suggested requires significant communication. Just as expectations need to be set for your team, they need to discuss expectations to and from their peers and communicate where they stand in meeting those expectations.
A great way to encourage communication with your team is by holding morning or afternoon huddles. Bringing your team together once a day, even if just for a short period of time, gives them an opportunity to communicate any questions or concerns they may have in addition to giving you the perfect platform to communicate your needs and expectations for the day.
